I’m one of the most paranoid people I know- I can go from zero to afraid for my life in .3 seconds. So this past weekend when I had the complete and utter joy of photographing John and Hannah in Richmond and I all of a sudden realized I didn’t have my precious iPhone with me anymore, I immediately assumed the worst. “It’s probably already on CraigsList, I’ll never see it again.” Even so, we retraced our steps, calling my phone with Hannah’s cell in a vain attempt to find it. No dice.

But then, 30 minutes later, Hannah got a text on her phone from a random college student that said “I found Abby’s phone- my name is Drew and I live on East Main Street. Please call me so that I can return it to you.” He’d found my phone on a ledge where I must have set it down and made an enormous effort to find out who it belonged to so that I could get it back. He even somehow found my email address and sent me a message, in case I didn’t get the text from Hannah’s phone.

I know it’s a seemingly small incident, but it restored a bit of my faith in humanity. That phone could have fetched a couple hundred bucks on CraigsList, money that a college student could almost certainly use. But instead he spent his Saturday afternoon tracking me down, just to do the right thing.

Thanks, Drew. You can’t know how blessed I was by your good deed.

Gosh, I just love when this kind of thing happens! Despite all the news outlets broadcasting nothing but the tragedies in this world and the inhumane acts of our peers – situations like this can in one instant resume all faith and hope in mankind. So glad you got your phone back btw and love the photo too. 😉

  2. That is when I have faith that not everyone in the world is selfish and that there are still wonderful people out there!

So first things first, I’m really glad Drew took the time to return your phone. My boyfriend lost his phone once and even though he had a ‘find my phone’ app, the person who found it immediately turned the phone off so he couldn’t find it. Knowing that this could have easily happened to you, makes me happy that there’s at least one decent person in the world! The second thing is that I am JUST LIKE YOU! I’m so paranoid and for no real reason. Whenever I try to get in contact with someone, if they don’t answer their phone I assume they’re being held captive by an ax wielding murderer who’s already destroyed their phone so they can’t call for help…haha yeah THAT’S the first thing I jump to when I can’t get a hold of someone!

  4. Rici says:

That is such a lovely story! Great! I love it when things like that happen and you think there are still good, selfless and helpful around!

  5. Vanessa Earll says:

  7. Serena says:

This post just made me smile way-huge. Way to go, Drew!

I love stories like that! Glad you got your phone back! Drew, you got some seriously good karma points coming your way dude!

  9. Becky says:

Yay! I love when people are good to each other. We hear so much of the bad stuff on the news that’s it’s nice to hear some encouraging stories once in awhile.
