I don’t know about you, but I LOVE the Christmas season. I love the smells, the sounds, the tastes, everything. Well, everything except those three pounds that won’t go away, but that’s beside the point. The point is that I wait around all year for the Christmas season, refusing to let holiday music touch these ears until exactly midnight after Thanksgiving, and then when January 1st rolls around, it’s like “…what now?” You’re left with a dead tree inside, dead trees outside, and a whole lot of packing up to do. The only thing to look forward to is a) snowstorms and 2) warmer weather.

Winter has never been my favorite season (post-January 1, that is), and since we all seem to have a lot in common I’m guessing you all aren’t too crazy about winter either? Yeah, I thought so. In an effort to bring some winter cheer, it’s time for another… NERDS GIVEAWAY! My original stipulations were to write a poem about a twenty-something with terrible fashion sense, but that sounded hard. So my new grounds for entering are as such:

Tell me your favorite part about post-Christmas winter. What do you look forward to the most? When it’s cold and dreary without a snowflake in sight, how do you cheer yourself from the groggy gray outside? Leave your input with your favorite (or favorites!) in the comment section below, and I’ll send a box of Nerds to one random winner. And just to satisfy my need for a good rhyme, I’ll enter your name TWICE if you write it in poem-form.

Happy Wednesday and happy writing!

The Post-Holiday Blues?

January 11, 2012

  1. Tessa says:

    As the snow comes down,
    and makes such great mounds,
    all over the hard ground,
    with out any bounds,
it makes it hard to sit and wait
with out a tea cup near your plate.

Once all the snow is gone,
the birds and bees will bond
with the flowers and trees along
    the roads where they belong.

As the breeze runs through my hair
the warm weather is finally there
    Living without a care.

  2. Sabrina says:

    How about a haiku??

    Winter is so cold
I warm up with a blanket
    to snuggle with Ben

Explanation since this is so cryptic! We just got married in November and other than us dating for the year prior to getting married, I hadn’t had anyone to snuggle with to keep me warm! But now we have each other and it’s just wonderful 🙂 Except that it’s been so crazy warm this “winter”… but that’s a whole other poem. (totally stumbled on your site via Katelyn James and I’m so thankful! Love your blog, your work, and your Nerds giveaways!)

  4. So the thing I love most about winter is SNOW! I have been kinda grumpy about the fact that we have nothing to show for that so far this year. 2 Years ago we got 3 major snowstorms that all produced over a foot of snow. It was the most amazing winter of my life!!! I also love going outside after a fresh snow and hearing how still the earth is. I can just hear God smiling. 🙂

  5. Clarisse says:

I hate the winter! HATE, HATE, HATE THE COLD! But you already knew that 🙂

The only positive things about the winter (post Jan. 1), is hot chocolate spiked with peppermint schnapps, the fact that I can eat soup every single day for lunch and not get sick of it, and Valentine’s Day!

  6. Sydni Jackson says:

Hey! I just found your blog – I noticed your comments on a lot of photographers’ blogs that I follow and you sounded like a fun person so I decided to check out your website! I love that you give away Nerds, they’re my second favorite candy behind sweet tarts, which I am currently eating haha. I think the best thing about winter is snuggling up with my husband to watch a movie with a hot Digiorno’s pizza in the oven. Oh yeah, we are first-class newlyweds. 🙂
