This is my friend Terra of Terra Dawn Photography. She likes Les Misérables, Harry Potter, film, being awesome and photography. Oh yes, and she was my wedding photographer, which means I love her for forever.

Terra Dawn Chandler

She also happens to do a pretty bang-up job when it comes to educating photographers on the more “getting seen” side of photography- pushing traffic to your blog, networking with industry professionals, and getting your work published. AND she has a passion for teaching, which helps explain her new….

BOOK!

If you’re a photographer looking to get published and are relatively ignorant of the process and requirements, you need to check out this book. Well, it’s more like a bookette. See, Terra’s writing an entire line of “bookettes” to help photographers boost their visibility in the wedding industry, so this is just the first of many.

Isn’t that a sweet book cover? Yeah, I thought so. Terra’s sister Niki designed it- the same Niki that designed my website! I pretty much love Terra’s entire family.

Terra will walk through everything from research to shooting for publications to the actual submission itself. If you’re somewhat of a novice when it comes to getting wedding blogs to notice you? Terra has a lot to offer.

She also includes tips on things to avoid, like selective coloring and “trendy” editing. And if you’re wondering whether to submit locally or nationally? Terra can help you with that, too. AND she’s included a whole bunch of resources in the back of the book in case you want to take things a step further.

Basically, she’s the bee’s knees. Any time I ever have a question about submissions, Terra’s the first one I call. She really GETS the industry, the requirements, the eqtiquette, and she’s shared it all in the bookette. So what are you waiting for? Go check it out! You can even read the first seven pages for free by going HERE, coincidentally the same place you can go to purchase the book :).

Happy Thursday!

A book review: “Publish Your Photography” by Terra Dawn

January 12, 2012

  1. Ooohh I gotta check this out when I get home…my work computer is blocking her blog for some reason. I’m trying to get myself out there more and get brave enough to submit things. The e-book sounds awesome!

  2. Jean Hensley says:

She’s a fantastic photographer and apparently an awesome teacher. She did a great job with your wedding photographs.

  3. Margo says:

I’m totally intrigued with the whole getting published thing. Thanks for the book review, I’m checking it out! (Also, I emailed you yesterday about your curtains. *wink*)

  4. Melissa says:

This is so cute…I just bought my copy. Thanks Abby 😉
