It is officially OKAY to play Christmas music now! Yes. I’m one of those die-hard “we don’t play Christmas tunes til Black Friday” people, because my mother put the fear of God in me growing up. We were legitimately not allowed to play Christmas tunes until the day after Thanksgiving!

Can we talk about the fact that the first day of each season is totally off? My birthday is December 11th and I’ve always thought of myself as a Winter baby… until I realized last year that Winter doesn’t start until December 21st. WHAT?! That means I’m an Autumn baby instead? Preposterous. So, here’s how I propose the seasons should be scheduled:

  • December 1: first day of Winter
  • March 1: first day of Spring
  • June 1: first day of Summer
  • September 1: first day of Fall.

Doesn’t that seem more reasonable? And easier to keep track of? I’m so glad you agree with me on that one.

As always, lessons learned/events that transpired over the past week!

  • Thanksgiving, obviously. We went to Matt’s family feast this year and his sister Meghan made the turkey. And it was the BEST TURKEY I’ve ever had in my life!
  • She let us take the turkey carcass home to make stock out of it, and I have to say- it’s the best stock I’ve ever had. Which I was pretty proud of, until I remember that Meghan was the one who made the turkey, so really… the credit goes to her.
  • My high school reunion was on Saturday! And it was way more fun than I’d anticipated. Especially because the bartender made me a mean French 75 without me having to give him the recipe. #youstayclassy
  • And then we went for milkshakes afterwards… at midnight.
  • This was the first year since 2007 that I haven’t gone Black Friday shopping at the outlets, and I was having some SERIOUS FOMO. We were in the car driving home from Thanksgiving at Matt’s parents’ home and I felt slightly panicked about the fact that we weren’t heading out to go shopping, even though I didn’t have anything to shop for. And Matt reminded me that it was likely just FOMO, and I realized I didn’t ACTUALLY want to go stand in line for an hour and a half at the JCrew Factory store. FOMO cured!
  • I did, however, shop online. So maybe I’m not cured after all…
  • You guys, I haven’t ordered our Christmas cards yet. I’m so behind!

An outtake from our Christmas card photos from two years ago. Still one of my favorites, because it’s a spot-on illustration of what a butthead Lily is sometimes when it comes to taking a photo with me.

P.S. Don’t forget that our Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals disappear at midnight! If you’ve been contemplating the Engagement Course OR the Email Templates, THIS is the time to get them! We never do sales or discounts so you won’t see a deal like this again! Go HERE for more details!

No Black Friday shopping!????. Can’t believe it! I love the photo with Lily! Love your seasons, too.

  4. Amy Smith says:

I’ve been following your blog and LOVE your posts. And then today I realized we share the same birthday and my dog is also named Lily! Small world! Have a happy holiday!
