When I first started my business, I didn’t care much about albums. They were expensive, and honestly- I was so busy trying to learn how to SHOOT weddings that I didn’t have much brain capacity left for printed products.

But as the years have gone on, I’ve come to realize that albums are an essential item for wedding photographers to offer! Why? Because we live in a digital age. We live in a time where people (myself included) are often all too happy to take photos on their phone and then never print them. Or to book a wedding photographer and never order prints to fill the frames in their home. I don’t think NOT printing is intentional, I think it’s a byproduct of having the mental cushion/comfort of “I can always do it later- after all, I have the digital files, don’t I? There’s no rush.”

But the problem is that most of the time, you DON’T do it later! I know this because WE have done that- Matt & I will be celebrating six years of marriage in January… and we’ve only ever printed one of our wedding photos. There’s more to the story than just laziness, but the fact of the matter is that I’ve always felt comfortable with the notion and safety of knowing I have the files, so I can always do it later.

I truly, truly believe it’s our job as photographers to help our clients to avoid that cycle, at least when it comes to their wedding photos! To make products easy to select, easy to order, and easy to enjoy. Whether that’s framed and matted portraits, collections of proof prints, or an album, it’s our job to help people fall back in love with physical, tangible photographs.

Because these photographs and memories were never meant to live on a computer!

Patrick & Katie chose an album as a gift to each other to celebrate Year 1 of their marriage, seeing as the traditional first anniversary gift is “paper.” I LOVED that their interpretation meant ordering their wedding album!
