Well, I don’t know about you but I had an absolute whirlwind of a weekend. There was a crazy thunderstorm that wiped out power in much of the area, I had the opportunity to second shoot for two amazing photographers (Alisandra Photography and Natalie Franke Photography!), and I consumed way more Cheet-o’s than I should admit.

Lessons learned:

  • I played model for my friend Laura a week and a half ago and there was a point where I saw some gorgeous ivy growing in a doorway and suggested we shoot there. Laura said “I think there might be poison ivy over there…” “Oh don’t worry, I’m not allergic!” I very quickly learned afterwards that I am, indeed, allergic to poison ivy.
  • Expired Benadryl cream does more harm than good. Think: BURNING.
  • Shooting outside with itchy, irritated skin in 100+ degree heat? An experience.
  • My mom always taught me that if something itches but you’re not supposed to scratch, just smack the skin. Well, I have a patch if irritated skin on my cheek so I have to keep hitting myself in the face. I can’t imagine how absurd this looks to strangers.
  • Make sure you check your can of Monster Energy Drink before popping it open- they’re now selling them in a non-carbonated version. That was a NASTY surprise!
  • I bought “live basil” last week because I was under the unfortunate impression that I could turn it into a flourishing plant to provide me with an endless supply of my favorite herb. It’s already dead.

Here’s a preview of the gorgeous wedding I got to second shoot with Ali! Check out her blog soon for the full post!

Happy Monday! I’m off to Patient First to get some steroids. Matt told me he better not come home and find me in a ‘roid rage.

Monday Mash-Up

July 2, 2012

  1. This post makes me laugh. What an unfortunate way to discover you are allergic to poison ivy!!! This post was all about it for you. I hope you get better soon, that stuff sucks!!!!

  2. ali w says:

You’re fun. Even when you have poison ivy all over your poor little body. It was great having you shoot with me!!!

  3. Kerith says:

HAHAHA. I killed two basil plants in a week. Green thumb I am not.

  4. Karin says:

Two remedies for poison ivy – aloe vera juice (with gel) comes in a bottle in a natural foods store. Smear it on liberally and sit. Oddly enough it actually cools and DRIES the rash. This is not aloe vera gel in a tube or lotion. This is a juice but get it with the gel (it’s a little like loose jello). Second remedy is a baking soda paste. Take a couple of tablespoons of baking soda and mix a little water, a bit at a time, to make a paste. Put the paste on a handkerchief or paper towel and wrap on the rash. These work for my hubby who usually gets an outbreak even when he just looks at the stuff. Good Luck! (These remedies DO really work!)

  5. Rebekah says:

My mom swears that toothpaste rubbed over poison ivy works wonders. I’ve never had it so I can’t say from personal experience but I have seen it help her a lot.

  6. Does tomato sauce/juice help with poison ivy? Or is that skunk spray…?? Lol I hope your face stops itching soon! I laughed out loud at what you said about hitting yourself in the face! HAHA.
