This shoot is so dear to me for several reasons! Melinda was one of my first students inside Brand Photography Academy, and she’s been a huge source of encouragement over the last couple of years! Which, given that she has an extensive background in higher education, was all the more emboldening. I’ve had the chance to get to know her IRL when she’s assisted on a few shoots (she was there for Mary Marantz’s!), and she’s the kinda person you want by your side on a fast-moving day. Her calm personality is unflappable, and I can 100% see why her clients feel so relaxed being in front of her camera.

So as a BPA student + an on-set assistant, this friend has seen the ins and outs of my system. When I saw her inquiry land in our inbox, I was *thrilled!*

Melinda is a Hudson Valley-based brand & wedding photographer, and I’ve LOVED watching her work grow over the last two years that we’ve known each other! Melinda made the trip down to my stomping grounds for her shoot and we split our time between two spots. First up, a residential location in Maryland for the “brand photographer” and “food photographer” storylines. Second, we drove into the city for one of DC’s more iconic museums for the “wedding photographer” storyline. We wanted to showcase Melinda’ warmth and heartfelt personality, which helps her clients feel SO comfortable with her on set & at weddings, balanced with the upscale nature her brand has moved toward.

For the day of her shoot, Melinda arranged for models to be on set to illustrate both her offers, brands and weddings, and I’m so glad we made that call. The final product feels all the more intuitive, and getting to see her in her element of posing & directing clients as I shot “BTS” was so much fun.
