Oh navy blue blazer, how I love you so, so much. Growing up, I quickly learned that a blazer is a necessity in any man’s closet for business casual wear, and I LOVE that it’s become more and more of a staple for women’s fashion as well! I was first sucked into the idea of having one after seeing Kate Middleton in her Smythe one-button blazer, but now I realize just how versatile it’s become for my wardrobe. It was a non-negotiable item in my luggage when we went to Europe this summer and I wore it all over the place- during our travel between cities/countries, out to dinner, walking about town, you name it.

I love how versatile a simple blazer is and, depending on your accessories and choice of top underneath, allows you to go from dressy to a bit more casual without a problem. These days I’ll wear my blazer to portrait sessions, client meetings, errands, church, or out with friends. I love that it pairs perfectly with jeans, colored denim, and my favorite red pleated skirt! Because my brand is built on the ideas of elegant, classic and chic, my blazer is the perfectย default whenever I’m fresh out of outfit ideas. I’ll be totally honest, Matt & I have pretty strict clothing budgets that we really try to stick to, so this blazer was a bit of a splurge for me, but it was SO worth it because I wear it all the time.

Everyone loves a classic- navy blazer

I’ve been thinking about having a tailor switch out the brown tortoise leather buttons for some gold ones. Whaddya think?

Everyone loves a classic- navy blazerAnother bonus- easy transition from season to season. I can wear my blazer pretty much year-round. (I’m sure there’s some fashion narcissist out there who will tell me I’m wrong and that blazers should only be worn during months that contain the letter “R” or something, but whatever. I do what I want.)

Everyone Loves a Classic- the JCrew Schoolboy navy blazer

I love your navy blazer, I have a black one that I wear with pretty much any and everything. And yes, changing out the buttons is an easy (and cheap!) way to update the look of your blazer without having to buy a whole new one. Suggestion though… Do more of an aged gold instead of super shiny gold… It’ll make it easier to continue pairing with everything without it ever looking dated.

  2. Jean says:

I love the blazer. You look absolutely stunning in it! Love you.

  3. Rebekah Hoyt says:

You are GORGEOUS my friend!! I love the blazer – I never know how to wear it (which is why I gave you the only one I had!) I need to learn how to layer it so I can use one – it is such a classic and versatile piece! And my vote for gold buttons would be no because I think it would limit what you could wear it with. The brown buttons match your boots so perfectly and you can dress UP or DOWN the blazer with buttons like that – gold feel a bit more formal so I think you’d be limited. Just my two cents! You should just get ANOTHER blazer with gold buttons ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Rebekah Hoyt says:

Oh! What Bethany said! I was picturing shiny gold but I think if you went with a muted, aged gold look it would be way more versatile. The end.

  5. Lindsay says:

YES on the gold buttons! Love!

  6. Matoli says:

love the idea of the gold buttons!! Wow are you gorgeous or what?!?!? ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Kat says:

I have a black blazer & a nude blazer – I love them!! And this post makes me want a navy one, ha! I second the girls in going with matte gold vs. shiny gold. Matte is easier to dress up & down & would still look fabulous with your skirt or boots ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Mary says:

Yes to the blazer all year round! I have a navy one that is probably the most comfortable piece of clothing I own and have been wanting a camel colored one to wear with black. Love how versatile they are!

  9. Megan Guernsey says:

Love it! And love the idea of switching out the buttons to gold.

  10. Jen Jar says:

Blazers are the best! I have quite a few in different colors, but navy is definitely the most versatile of the bunch! You look good in navy! ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. Caili says:

Do you even REALIZE how gorgeous you are?!? Side note, love the blazer. ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Janelle C says:

LOVE that blue blazer!! That color can go with anything!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Melissa Farmer says:

Navy blue blazer – YES. Gold buttons to shake it up – YES.

    You are stunning!

  14. So I have the schoolboy blazer from the jcrew factory, and it has gold buttons!! (Not that I think you should go buy a second identical blazer lol) but the gold looks great! ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. Rici says:

Oh I love blazers! So much, I have way to many. And somehow I missed it that it needs a Kate to make them fashionable. Or is it a Europe thing? I thought they were as fashionable in the States as here. And I have more than one in NavyBlue and every time I find a new one I need to remind myself of the darlings in my closet. Kinda addicted… ๐Ÿ˜‰
