Each time my Facebook fan page reaches another 100 fans, I feel like throwing a party. I have no idea how so many people (1200!) have come to Like my page, but THANK you! It’s such an encouragement to log on and see a little red “1” or “2” on my page, alerting me to new Likers. Since my usual giveaway of a box of Nerds seems understated, and since Windsor Collective blogged about giveaways that reflect your brand, I decided it’s time to up the ante. So this time? We’re giving away….

A pencil sharpener!

But it’s not just any pencil sharpener- it’s a pencil sharpener shaper like an antique twin lens reflex camera! Seriously- how cool is it?? I asked for one for Christmas and totally forgot about it until I found mine under the tree (thanks, Matt!) and it ended up being my favorite gift!

The camera on the left = pencil sharpener. The camera on the right is an actual TLR.

As an added bonus, I will also send you a box of 12 Ticonderoga #2 pencils, the world’s BEST pencil! I know. There really is no end to my generosity.

Ok so here’s how you enter: leave a comment on my blog (this one!) telling me the last time you remember using a #2 pencil, the kind you actually have to sharpen. And that’s it! I’ll choose a random winner on Friday, March 16th, so check back to see if you won!

The deets- one entry per person (I can see your IP address- no cheating), winner must live within the continental United States, winner has 24 hours to contact me for prize else a new winner will be chosen. And so on and so forth.

Happy Tuesday!

A giveaway!

March 13, 2012

  1. Ohmygosh. I LOVE pencils! Actually I carry around pencils in the place of pens. Pencils are far superior, since if you make a mistake or have a cancellation in your calender you can simply erase, and pencil the appt in on the correct day. I actually have a #2 pencil on my desk at work. I am only allowed to write with pen on work documents (BOO!). Anyways, I use it from time to time and mostly when I write in my day planner!!!! I actually used my pencil yesterday to update different appts I have coming up:-)

  2. Mia Bjerring says:

You know what really bums me out? I read through this blog post, getting more and more excited, trying to find out what the giveaway items is, seeing it’s a camera pencil sharpener!! (omg how cool is that!?), seeing you add the bonus of pencils! (I love pencils, pens, anything you can write with actually. The bookstore is in fact my favourite shop on earth. Nerd much? Yes indeed… and then the cold hard facts hit me in the face like a cold metal pole: Only people from the US can participate.. Grrr 😉 Why can’t I live in the US?!!
And I was so excited for this giveaway! Oh well life isn’t fair haha. Good luck to whoever the lucky winner will be! 🙂
(ps. this will be remembered Abby! Haha, just kidding!)

  3. Meghan says:

    Way cool!

I used a #2 pencil Sunday. I journal and alternate between pen and pencils depending on my mood. I love writing on crisp, blank paper with regular pencils. I’m old school.

  4. Rebekah Hoyt says:

Hahahaha that is AWESOME! I so want it!! I can remember the last time I used a mechanical pencil, but I really can’t remember the last time I used an ACTUAL pencil! I do remember, though, how horrifying it was in elementary school when your pencil would break and you’d have to go up to the sharpener during a TEST and whirl it around (I’m talking the kind you have to crank yourself). It was like… do you do it QUICKLY and really LOUD to get it over with? Or do you do it slowly to ease the pain of the sound, but it takes FOREVER to sharpen your pencil? Or even worse… you go to the pencil sharpener and SNAP! Your pencil breaks and it’s stuck inside… only to put the classroom pencil sharpener out of commission… don’t be THAT girl.

  5. Christine says:

That pencil sharpener is s.w.e.e.t.!!! I use a #2 pencil every day at work! We have fancy electric pencil sharpeners here at the office but sadly I did not have a good one at home when I needed it last weekend. I somehow still have a pack of pencils my mom must have bought me back in the 5th grade – they have my name specially printed on them. I was preparing for a school assignment – giving assessments that require the use of a pencil. I was going the non mechanical route in case a client decided to walk off with a favorite. Anyhow, I went to sharpen the bran-spankin’ new purple pencils with my name on them and spent 30 minutes trying to get a good tip on 3 pencils! A sharpener upgrade is on my to do list! Come on random number generator – pick me! 🙂

  6. Justin Cassavaugh says:

Wow, the last time I used a No. 2 pencil was when I was forced to use one on a scan-tron my senior year of college, so probably May ’10.
I switched to pens in 8th grade when my notes started disappearing and smudging in the beginning of my notebooks.

  7. Lauryn says:

I love Ticonderoga pencils because of Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury. Favorite book of all time. Fun giveaway!!

  8. Ohhh I really want to win!! I think the last time I used a number two pencil was back when I was planning our wedding. I couldn’t explain how I wanted some things displayed so I sketched it out onto regular printer paper.

  9. Alison Mish says:

Wow, the last time I had to use a #2 pencil was in high school to take the SATs! I don’t miss that. I myself used to be a fan of the BIC Mechanical Pencils, but my husband still rocks out the #2’s 🙂

  10. jae says:

i’m totally not a resident of the states at all, but i’m commenting anyway for the heck of it! the last time i used a #2 pencil was during my last in-school exams (i’m a night student who takes classes without exams now, so that was about a year and a half ago…). i ended up bringing it as a just in case, and my mechanical pencil failed (of course), so it had a purpose after all. so glad i didn’t break the point. that would have been awkward.

  11. Chad says:

I left the office and made my way to the parking lot. There in my path was a sparkly apparition. Fortunately, this was quite some time ago when people hated trees and so I reached into my pocket and retrieved a #2 pencil. I tried to stab that monster, but my pencil was dull and he just laughed. He punished me for my insolence by watching me sleep for the next few months. If only I had a pencil sharpener, I would be able to sleep without having to express emotion and read War and Peace aloud before bed. The lesson is: culture, literature, and feelings repel vampires, but pointy pencils work better.

  12. Serena says:

Oh, I LOVE this pencil sharpener – so, so ADORABLE! <3

The last time I used a pencil (in general) was for sketching artwork/ideas/inspirational things and the last time I used specifically a "#2 pencil" was when I was scrambling around for something to write with (because there wasn't a handy laptop) – hah! I used to use them all the time in school… until those super-trendy mechanical pencils with comfort grip won me over…

  13. Kaitlyn says:

I used a #2 pencil just this week as one of my friends had them readily available because he was practicing his drawing skills. this is sweet :]

  14. toviah says:

I use a #2 pencil quite a bit with my kids but we just noticed we don’t have a sharpener! LOL! What great timing!

  15. Dylan says:

Thank you for the Shout-out! We already have that pencil sharpener and it looks darn good!

  16. Marvin says:

Last time I was using a #2 pencil and sharpening it was when I was drawing up our plans for an engagement shoot idea.

  17. Holly says:

I use a #2 pencil everyday! I am a teacher and I keep a stash on my desk. I also write in my attendance and gradebook with a pencil, things always change!

  18. The last time I used a #2 pencil was a few weeks ago while playing a game of Cranium.

  19. Love it! I actually just bought my first pencil yesterday is probably over 5 years! I think last time I used a No 2 pencil I was taking a multiple choice test… So you can understand my aversion!

  20. so the last time I used a number two pencil was today when I was working on statistics homework 😉 (yucky yucky I hate math)

  21. Maria says:

Um….a few weeks ago at work when I decided to use a pencil instead of a pen 😛

  22. Anna says:

This is soooo cool! I used a #2 pencil just last week, to write to-do lists and a shopping list as they change. I also have been using them lately to outline my stipple drawings.
What a cool find, where did you spot this sharpener??

  23. Sharon Wright says:

The last time I used a number 2 pencil was this morning. I work with numbers and a pencil is a requirement!

  24. Tessa Walsh says:

Gahhh, Abby you are so cool!!
I only like number two pencils that have a good eraser. Not the kind that just smears what needs to disappear! I usually use my Pilot G2 07 (which I know you are a fan of) or my clear point paper mate pencils or my Micron pens. But I love a good number two pencil with a good eraser. 🙂 I used one on Sunday…..
In my opinion the penCIL is mightier than the sword 🙂
    Have a beautiful day. 🙂

  25. Hannah says:

The last time I used a #2 pencile was this morning while doing algebra homework! 8]

  26. Alicia ZImmerman says:

Actually i use a number two a few times a week when i help my son with his practice writing. 🙂 and that sharpner is amazing!

  27. McCall Doyle says:

I launched my business in October 2011 and got my first Gilded Lily appointment book for 2012…and promptly bought No.2 pencils to make my appointments so that I’d have flexibility to edit and change all my clients. I started out the year with one client and now I have 12 booked for the year thus far, which is so exciting…and I LOVE using my pencils to write in my clients. I have a smart phone and the ability to make my appointments in a high tech manner (and do), but there’s nothing as satisfying as writing in the client name, time, location and details in my own writing, and checking them off as I finish the shoot. It gives me a little thrill and makes my new and small business seem real each & every time. 🙂

  28. Matt C says:

I used a #2 pencil last week when I took a stats exam. I promise to use this pencil sharpener very often. Thanks for your consideration.

  29. Omgosh, how awesome is that?! I love pencils! I prefer those to pens anyway.. but It’s been awhile since I’ve gotten any that need to be sharpened because.. well.. I don’t have a sharpener! I’m so excited! Love your blog!

  30. Lauren Jolly says:

I actually use a #2 pencil every week at my part-time job as a receptionist at a hair salon. We have to use pencil because people cancel appointments so often. I know that’s a boring response. I wish I could say something like “the last time I used a #2 pencil was when I was backpacking around Europe and I had to draw to communicate with the locals. back then, I had to sharpen it with my teeth.” haha oh well. anyway…..I would love love love this sharpener for my new home office!!

  31. Francis O says:

So let’s see the last time I used a #2 pencil, well that would be when I was in elementary school middle school I used mechanical pencil’s and pens. It has been forever since a real pencil touched my fingers, but I guess it can’t be all that bad I am still able to write. So I guess if I win then I will have to start using them again cause hey why not its a pencil right 🙂

  32. Erin says:

I use TICONDEROGA #2 pencils EVERY day!!! I think they are the best- seriously, if a pencil doesn’t have a green metal cap around the top then I’m probably not going to use it. 😉 Jk- I’ll use a sub par pencil if I have to.

  33. Rebekah says:

I used a Ticonderoga this morning! They’re my fave:)

  34. marcus says:

i actually use a pencil most every day, to make notes about my lab work before transferring them to my notebook. i dislike the plastic feel of mechanical pencils, so i use dixon oriole #2.5 pencils.
i also use them to keep score at baseball games whenever i go, around 15-20 times per year!

  35. marcus says:

full disclosure: abby is married to my cousin, so i may be ineligible for the giveaway, but pencils rock nonetheless!

  36. Rachel says:

Filling in the bubbles on professor evaluations in college.

  37. The last time I used one was playing trivia a few weeks ago! We got last place, but there was a Harry Potter question so it didn’t matter 🙂

  38. I just used a #2 pencil a few weeks ago, to sketch some shoot concepts out on paper to be scanned in digitally! The sharpener is totally legit though – love it 🙂

  39. Kaitlyn says:

Haha I use them everyday for school!! This is an awesome sharpener though, I would love to get it for my teacher(my mom:) ) who loves photography, can you tell me where you found this??!

  40. amy says:

hahahahaha this is an awesome giveaway!!! last time i used a #2 was last week at work!!! but then it became unusable and guess what we didnt have a sharpener!!!!

  41. Margo says:

Wait, what?! Why have I never seen that pencil sharpener. How cute is that?! So, I’m really not sure when I last used a #2 pencil. I’m a mechanical pencil girl. But, I used a sharpener this morning during Bible study on my fancy schmancy colored pencils. The tip kept falling out so I’d sharpen it and then when I used it again the tip would fall out. I feel like the camera sharpener would do a much better job. Just sayin’.

  42. karen says:

ah! i LOVE IT! i actually ran into a problem at work a couple of weeks ago because of these pencils! i couldn’t for the life of me find a mechanical pencil in our supply closet, but we had a full box of regular, good ol’ #2 pencils, so i grabbed one, figuring it could be fun, since it had been SO long! after a good 30 minutes of searching the office, a pencil sharpener was not to be found anywhere! so, i ended up having to use pens. the unsharpened #2 pencil still sits in my pencil/pen jar on my desk, crying out to be used, but still no sharpener. 🙂

  43. Annamarie says:

IT’S SO CUTE! i use one every day because I like to write all of my to-do lists and in my planner with one so that I can easily make edits if necessary. haha.

  44. Ashley says:

the last time i used a #2 pencil was today. i work at a preschool as the storytime teacher and used it to fill out library book check-outs! 🙂 such a cool giveaway!

  45. Karin says:

Oh I love this pencil sharpener! What a very cool idea! Mmmm… the last time I used a #2 pencil was last week when I ran out of lead on my mechanical one… back to old reliable. 🙂 Great giveaway – smart!

  46. HAHA I actually made fun of my husband the other day because he was using a #2 pencil. My handwriting is very small, so I prefer mechanical pencils (though he’d get a kick out of the sharpener and my desk would be a very happy home ;)). The last time I used one was……oh, third grade.

  47. Lara Cariker says:

I have an obsession with school/office supplies. I actually have a couple #2 pencils at my office and would use them on a daily basis, but the issue is- I can NEVER find a sharpener. I really don’t like technology and how “advanced” our society has become (such as using mechanical pencils and being given a blackberry at work so I can’t go to lunch without someone calling/emailing). But my point is, I use #2 pencils and appreciate the uniqueness of them but could really use an AMAZING camera sharpener that I would displace on my desk with pride. :o)

  48. Karen Field says:

I love your give-away idea! My last time handling a wooden pencil was just this morning as I was sharpening my 1st graders’ pencils, Like I’ve done for the past 11 years. I, personally, dislike having my pencil tip get dull so I converted to mechanical pencils years ago. I have several different kinds and lead widths, each for a different purpose. But, I don’t have my own personal pencil sharpener and this one would look so great on my desk and would begin many conversations! Plus, kiddo, it would remind me to pray for you more during the day. OOOOOh, I hope I win! Relax everybody, she won’t give it to me unless I am chosen at random so I, being her Mom, have no greater chances of winning it than any of the others of you. Abby is a person of integrity.

  49. Meg Van Aken says:

Last time I used an actual #2 pencil that had to be sharpened?? Maybe when I took the SATs!???? A LONG time ago.
