I love my 5dmk2. It’s been my favorite camera body so far and she’s been pretty good to me. But when the 5dmk3 came out and the reviews began to roll in about an improved focusing system? My heart began to stray from my mk2. Because as much as I’ve loved her, when paired with my 50mm 1.2? She’s pretty inconsistent. The kind of inconsistent that makes you want to pull your hair out because that PERFECT shot you got? Yeah, the mk2 backfocused on your bride’s ear instead of her eye, resulting in one of those ever-so-slightly blurry photographs that makes you go cross-eyed as your cornea attempts to make that which is not sharp, sharp. So frustrating.

For last weekend’s double header, I took a spin with a 5dmk3 rental from BorrowLenses.com. And while it isn’t perfect, it’s definitely an improvement from the mk2. I haven’t seen a single backfocused image! I was already planning to upgrade my camera body at the end of wedding season this year, and knowing how nuts the whole backfocusing thing makes me, I went ahead and upgraded a couple of months early! My excursion to purchase my new camera was actually on the way to last night’s portrait session with Amanda of Anthomanic (more of these soon!), so I went ahead and just used the new mkiii. Look how PRETTY Amanda is!!
