As if I needed another reason to love Wendy of Chair Whimsy.

This was our fifth shoot together, and somehow, she managed to outdo herself. Again.

Sometime during the second half of 2023, Wendy (*the* chair stylist) decided on one of her most audacious personal projects yet: a set of Taylor Swift-inspired chairs, one to represent each of her albums. The “Chair-ess” Tour, if you will.

She released one chair per month, taking her cue from Tay and dropping little hints and Easter Eggs to tell her followers which chair was coming up next, with the entire thing culminating in Wendy and her daughters heading to Amsterdam this past summer to see the Eras tour for themselves.

My clients are dope.

I had a hard stop on travel after April, so Wendy plowed ahead and finished all 10 chairs by the end of March in order to have everything ready for this shoot.  We’d gone back and forth about styling individual scenes/vignettes for each of the chairs, and I’m glad Wendy ended up nixing that idea, because she was right: these chairs needed to be able to speak for themselves.

We mapped out a plan for where and when we’d photograph the groupings of chairs, because I wanted to make sure we have even light and open shade. Then on the day of, we hunted through the venue in pursuit of the best corners to place each chair to match the vibe of the albums they represented. After our time at the venue was over, we headed back to Wendy’s studio to get a few more photos of everything together in her workspace (because that floral patterned wall in the background is just so iconically Wendy).

Oh, and because she doesn’t do anything half-way, Wendy also had a custom, tiered skirt made by Katherine Bignon to wear throughout photos… and then wore it to the Eras Tour this summer!
