2019 has been a year “this has NEVER HAPPENED before” when it comes to weather and engagement sessions. Goodness gracious, mother nature has kept me on my toes!! We flew out to Seattle for Michael & Kate’s engagement session, two of the sweetest humans I’ve ever had the luck of photographing, and were hopeful that with it being Spring, the “not rainy season,” we’d get lucky and have clear skies. We watched the forecast like a hawk and ended up moving their session up to Wednesday because our original date of Thursday was calling for rain all afternoon. My weather app said we’d be clear for Wednesday afternoon, so we drove into town a bit early and WOULDN’T YOU KNOW IT, it started raining right before we met up and all of a sudden, the forecast was now calling for showers all evening.
“This has never happened before!!”
Fortunately, it was a light enough drizzle that we could still shoot outdoors a bit with the clear umbrella Kate brought along! We began their session at Shug’s Soda Fountain, and with Kate’s love of ice-cream, it turned out to be the perfect rain plan! And because we were in town for a few days, we ended up meeting up again at Discovery Park for “Engagement Session, Volume II” to take advantage of the clear skies later in the week. All in all, it was a lesson in getting creative and being flexible!
Kate & Michael, it was an absolute DELIGHT to spend time with you both! I absolutely love how your photographs turned out, because I remember how much fun we had shooting together (despite the odds stacked against us!). You guys have me so very excited for next April- I can’t wait to see you both again!
