The first time I noticed the quiet way in which he loves her was when I saw a self-portrait he’d taken of the two of them. It was an intimate black & white photo- her head tipped back on the arm of a couch, a gentle kiss on her forehead from David. I saw that photo and I remember thinking, “Oh my goodness, he adores her.”
And he does. He pursues her with the same quiet tenacity that most would associate with the first few months of dating. And I think that’s my favorite part about the side of their relationship that I’ve observed- that while so many couples give up on the chase just a few years into their marriage, these two never did. As their family’s grown to include a daughter, David’s never stopped his efforts to woo his wife. And seeing how his endless pursuit makes Kristy smile that embarrassed little smile, the kind that draws her eyes downward, it’s enough to make even the biggest cynic believe in the concept of a forever romance. Because that’s what they have- not just a marriage, but romance. That never left them, and I know it never will.
David & Kristy, I count myself unbelievably lucky to have photographed you not once, but twice now! Thank you so very much for the opportunity to document your unassuming love again, this time in my favorite place in the entire world! I can’t think of a more perfect place to capture your quiet romance than Paris, and I sincerely hope you love these as much as I do!
