When I first began shooting in Paris, I had no idea it would become what it has. It started out as me trying to justify the medium format film camera I’d purchased months before by using it for personal work during our first trip to Paris. I also knew that if I photographed everything on film, it would force me to limit the number of shots I could take, meaning I’d have to slow down and really THINK about something before I took a photo of it.
And as a result, I truly believe I enjoyed our travel MORE, because I was actually experiencing more of our time with my own eyes, instead of seeing everything through the viewfinder of my camera, relying on a piece of technology to do the “remembering” for me!
What I didn’t expect was to receive the first set of scans back and to fall even more hopelessly in love with Paris than I had during our time in the city a few weeks prior. Something about seeing my memories anew in such a beautiful format, in precious batches of 16-shots per roll (instead of a memory card with 500+ photos), it sparked something in me. And I’m not being dramatic when I say that I haven’t been the same since!
We’ve returned almost a DOZEN times to La Ville Lumière since that first fateful trip in June 2013, and every time, I come back excited, refreshed, and with a Ziploc bag full of film, just waiting to inspire me all over again!
And so I’m absolutely thrilled that for the first time, a selection of my favorite fine art Paris photographs will be on display (and for sale!) at a gallery show in Charlottesville, Virginia!
I met Cynthia at the Spring Street Boutique back in April when I was in town for Will & Courtney’s engagement session, and after mentioning that I work frequently in Paris, Cynthia asked if I’d be willing to do a show at the boutique! My answer was a strong “UM YES.”
From October 1st to 31st, you’ll find 21 of my favorite photographs from the City of Light, in limited edition framed & matted fine art prints available for purchase at the Spring Street Boutique in Charlottesville, Virginia. I’m so excited!!!
And I’d love to invite you to join us for an opening soirée on Friday, October 6th from 6-8pm! I’ll be there to mingle, meet & greet, and if you’re not busy that night, Matt & I would be so, so thrilled to see you there.
Here’s a preview of some of the photographs you’ll find at the show! Some of my most classic pieces (plus a few new favorites!), framed & matted & ready to hang wherever you fancy.
I hope I’ll see you there!
