Remember that show on VHI “Best Week Ever”? I’m definitely having one of those, and it’s only Monday! Yesterday I hopped on a train to head up to New York City for Mike & Kristin’s engagement session, and from the first frame (no really- the very first shutter click!) it was incredible. I’m bursting at the seams to get home and get these images edited- I have a feeling their’s will be one looooong blog post.
In other news, I learned how to hail a cab! I had to ask a native New Yorker how to do it first so that I didn’t look like an idiot, but after a quick tutorial, I successfully hailed FOUR cabs throughout the course of yesterday afternoon. I’m on fiyah.
As always, lessons learned/events that transpired over the weekend:
- Taking the train is surprisingly more enjoyable than driving to the city. I called my uncle who lives in Brooklyn to ask about the best way to get here, and he assured me that if I get anxiety driving in DC, it PROBABLY wasn’t a good idea to attempt to navigate the streets of New York. Troof.
- Proof that I have the best couples ever- after spending nearly seven hours with Mike & Kristin last night, we’re going to FAO Schwartz this morning because last night I said I’d never been. Yessss.
- Riding in a New York City cab- well, I’m thankful to be alive today, that’s for sure.
- Alright, how many people live in the Big Apple?? Approximately one jillion? Then HOW do I keep running into people I recognize every time I’m here? The first time, I saw my great Aunt & Uncle, who live in Charlottesville, VA. The second time, I met Kenny Kim, Chicago wedding photographer extraordinaire. And yesterday, I recognized Matt & Clare from my friend Katelyn’s blog- I felt like such a creep.
- This city is amazing, plain and simple. I want to shoot here again and again and again!
See?? Amazing!
Sigh. I’m in heaven here. Happy Monday, friends!

Bam, I’m first! I hope you tried your New York accent on at least one cabbie
I’m so glad you got to shoot in NYC! I’m loving all the sneak peeks you’ve shown so far and I cannot wait to see your full shoot!
Driving is DC makes me a nervous wreck too, I could never drive in the city! You’re smart for taking the train and cabs, but oh my goodness cabs are a crazy adventure of their own! Can’t wait to see the photos, I absolutely love NYC!
I have the same luck too, I always run into the most unexpected people when in NYC. Love that place! Gorg photo, can’t wait to see the full session!
It looks like Seinfeld was accurate when they kept running into each other randomly on the streets of NYC then based off what keesp happening to you.
Glad you rode the train. In the cab, just enjoy the ride, even though it can be scary at times. Have a safe trip home! Love you.
Taking the train (or even a bus) is SO much better than driving! You don’t have to worry about navigating that mess OR paying for parking! (That’s where they get you.) Enjoy FAO Schwartz!
I’m so excited to see more pictures from this session!! I love New York!! And, I hope you enjoyed FAO Schwartz! 🙂
