This weekend I was reminded several times over what a klutz I can be. On Saturday, I had the joy of photographing the wedding of one of my old ballet friends (Kara!) as she married her sweetheart (Jeremy!). So, of course, I started the day off by slipping off the top step of the venue and falling all the way down the stairs. That’ll teach me to never again wear slick Jack Rogers on a flight of wooden steps. Fortunately, I didn’t have any gear on me at the time, so the only thing damaged was my ego. And a few blood vessels- I’ve got a couple sweet bruises!

And then to finish the night off, as we were departing the venue, I got tangled up in my light stand bag and tripped over that landing on my hands and knees in front of the bus full of wedding guests. More bruises from that, too.

But on the PLUS side, my second shooter Nichole said it was the most graceful fall she’d ever seen, and that I even pointed my toes on the way down. “You even fall like a ballerina!”

Thanks for the silver lining, Nichole!

As always, lessons learned/events that transpired over the last week:

  • After Saturday’s 91˚ + humid day, I now know that any wedding days calling for excessively warm weather call for dresses that DON’T show sweat. Can’t believe it took me seven years to figure that one out.
  • If you’re looking for an authentic French atmosphere in DC, you NEED to go to Le Diplomate. I was there yesterday for an adorable event, and as soon as we got home yesterday I made reservations for dinner in two weeks. It’s the most accurate French establishment I’ve ever encountered in the US!
  • I really, really want to go to Hawaii. Specifically, Kauai. I don’t know why I’m including that in a MMU, but it’s how I feel.
  • Red lipstick is my superpower, and I have finally found one that stays ALL. DAY. My sweet client Rosie gifted me the most perfect shade after their anniversary session, “Fly Girl” by LipSense, and that stuff does. not. come. off. It’s magical.
  • Friday nights are for dinners with good friends and Mario Party battles on N64. Being an adult is the best.
  • Also on the topic of being an adult: I had strawberry shortcake for breakfast yesterday. And French madeleines for lunch. Can someone lend me some insulin?

A sweet little preview of what’s to come this week on the blog!

Sorry about your fall. Glad you only had bruises! Strawberry Shortcake for breakfast! Do it while you are still young! When you get to be my age, you really cannot do that!
