I’ve known for a while that I’d be needing a macro lens, I think I was just hoping I could get away without it for a while. Well, the time came that I finally realized that, as a wedding photographer and someone who shoots a lot of details, I NEED one. So after a bit of research and a lot of testing, I finally ordered the Canon 100mm 2.8L macro.
And friends? I am so glad we finally took the plunge and bought it. It was amazing for my two e-sessions last weekend, and I can’t wait to use it on the super secret project, going down on SUNDAY. Wedding photographers that are just starting out- don’t kid yourself. A macro lens is a necessity, just like a good portrait lens and some sort of zoom for ceremony shots.
Pardon me for failing to include shots of the actual lens- I was going to do that this morning, but my 50 1.2 malfunctioned and I had a minor panic attack. I’m sure, in time, you’ll come to forgive me.
Here are a few images I took while playing around with my new lens. Look how SHARP they are!
Betch can’t guess what this is? You’ll find out soon enough 🙂
This is a piece of coral we brought backfrom the beach in St. Lucia where we took our honeymoon. 🙂
And this is the necklace I wore on my wedding day. I was hoping it would bring snow- it totally did! Ironically, I bought it at a jeweler’s in Orlando.
Happy Wednesday!

I love that lens! You said it well “a must have”.
Nice test shots!
AH! SO cool! I think photography has evolved since I got married and I didn’t know such things exsited then. Weird how even just a few years can totally change how people shoot:-)
Wow! You really get in close and get details. I can see why you NEED this!
As an artist and a photographer, having a macro lens really changes the way you look at the world! I’m obsessed with mine! It’s my own little personal release! 🙂 Love these images Abby! Gorgeous as always!
That will work wonders when you shoot some beautiful stationery 😉
I freaking love that image of the coral.. reminds me of the beach.. which makes me feel happy inside *swoon*! This also reminds me that I should finally get a macro lens..
thanks for the info! do you feel it is a good portrait lens/multipurpose too?
