Julie is someone I’ve admired and followed for years- it takes less than a minute of being in her presence to understand why. She’s the epitome of warmth and kindness- the cozy vibe you get from her content online? It translates completely to who she is in real life. When I shared with her that’s we’d been matched with Felix’s birth mother back in 2019, she screamed for joy at the top of her lungs- her reaction is STILL one of my favorite ones we had!

She’s thoughtful, compassionate, and personable, and when you combine that with her other-worldly gifts behind the camera, you can’t help but stand in awe.

I first encountered Julie through the photography world where she’s a beloved icon, and Matt and I were lucky enough to be photographed by her in Paris a few years ago! (Those are still some of my favorite portraits of us ever, Julie!). As she moved out of the world of photographing weddings and more into editorial work, retreat planning, and writing, she mentioned she’d been thinking about brand photos, and my heart about jumped out of my chest!

We’d initially planned her session for Paris for last Spring, but ended up needing to reschedule when our family got some exciting adoption-related news (you can read about that here). For the first time in my life, I’m actually happy we ended up photographing in the US instead of Paris! The location we landed on was PERFECT. With everything being indoors, I love that we were able be really intentional about the visual messaging side of her photos (instead of the gorgeous Parisienne portraits I would have been so tempted towards in France).

We focused on creating a combination of lifestyle portraits, vignettes, and storytelling “conversation starters” for Julie to use across her social channels, website, and even for the author’s photograph in her new book Becoming Julie, due out on 7/7! She’s already put so many of these to use on her IG feed, and I’m loving the effect.

Julie, I can’t express what a true honor it was to shoot for you! What a dream come true! From the bottom of my heart, thank you. For being you, for being so flexible, and for giving me total freedom and creative license. I’m so grateful!

Also on set for this session for wardrobe + set styling was my go-to stylist, Katherine Bignon!
