Alright guys. I realize that by posting this, it’s not at ALL in line with my brand of “old-school chic, classic, French-loving elegance.” Buuuut I kinda don’t care, because I’m pretty proud of it, no matter how nerdy it may be! As soon as Kaitlyn Phipps told me she was expecting, I knew I wanted to do something special for her. Kaitlyn’s been such an incredible friend over the past few years and I wouldn’t be the same if it weren’t for her, so I wanted to make sure she and Baby Ollie felt super loved!
In true Abby fashion, the idea for this quilt struck me 36 hours before Kaitlyn’s baby shower. “I should make her a Harry Potter baby quilt!!” I thought as I lay in bed, attempting to go to sleep. And so the day beforehand, I ran to the fabric store, chose my colors, raced home and started cutting fabric and sewing pieces together like a crazy person. It wasn’t finished in time for the shower, but I DID have the top assembled and the illustrations traced out so Kaitlyn could get a feel for what it would look like!
Here’s the quilt as a whole-
And here are each of the illustrated, quilted blocks! I drew these freehand :).
Nimbus 2000 + Potter glasses
Golden Snitch + 9 3/4
Hogwarts letter + sword of Gryffindor
Feather quill & ink bottle + lightning bolt
The Sorting Hat (my favorite one!) + a wand. Yes, I know it looks like a palm tree- those are supposed to be sparks issuing from the end of the wand.
A key + Quidditch hoops
There you have it! I never would have been able to make this if it weren’t for my Granny walking me through the first baby quilt I made last spring, so hats off to her for being such an excellent teacher!
Kaitlyn- I hope this sees little Ollie through lots of play dates, episodes of late-night-reading-with-a-flashlight, and imagination-fueled adventures. Love you, friend!

I love this!! How cool! I always think homemade gifts are so much more special and know that babe will appreciate the love and hard work you put in when they’re snuggled up in it 15 years from now!!
From your quilting mother, bravo! You are carrying on after several generations on your maternal side. This gladdens my heart. Baby Ollie will be held and loved in this quilt and may it be his favorite blankie!
What a great gift for someone so special to you. Your Granny is very proud that you took up quilting and that it brings you pleasure to create something so original. This is just one more of your talents. Love you!
