I don’t make any effort to hide my woeful ignorance of pretty much all things design. If I were to go back to school, I’d definitely take a few graphic and interior design classes so that I could a) create my own marketing materials all by myself and 2) put a decent room together. But as I don’t plan on going back to school anytime soon, I’ve had to find other avenues of inspiration.

Fortunately for me, I stumbled across Alyse French Photography‘s 1 for Me, 1 for You giveaway in October where she was offering up a bright red Design*Sponge At Home book. I can’t remember if I entered or not, but the name of the book stuck with me so when I was at Barnes and Noble this weekend and found it for half off, I BOUGHT IT. I’m convinced it holds the key to my decorating dilemma.

The book has a ton of inspiration from real homes (like the image on the right) and it also has a ton of DIY projects (like the silverware curtain hook instructions!).

I just really liked this spread :).

Look!! Instructions to upholster a chair with a staple gun! It’s a good thing Matt and I just bought 6 chairs for our dining room table… DIY day, anyone?

After I finish studying [read: obsessing over] this book, I’ll clearly be an expert. Not really, but I already feel more prepared to decorate my own office. Oh don’t worry, I’ll blog that in its entirety too!

Happy Wednesday!

i feel ya on the taking graphic design/interior decorating classes haha i am BEYOND inept when it comes to all things design-oriented. it’s so overwhelming!

can’t wait to see the office!!!!!!!

  2. Oooh! Obsession! 🙂 I’ve never been very design oriented, but when I get my first little home this summer – you betcha!

  3. Jessica Wray says:

I really like to decorate and help others. My parents let me decorate/design most of their house. What a treat! I will now be going out to get this book. I hope I get half off too! PLEASE post office pics so we can all be jealous. Happy shooting in the New Year Abby!

  4. I feel at a total loss for that too. Sometimes I wonder what I am good at but I love cooking and so that might be what I am REALLY talented at (only not in a fancy chef at a 4 star restauraunt). LOL!

  5. Melissa says:

Looks like a great book. I’m a DIY queen… love finding bargains at auctions and refinishing/re-purposing them!

  6. I’m like you…I would LOVE to go back to school for graphic design. I think I’m just a visual person in general!! I will have to check BN for the Design Sponge book!

  7. Jean Hensley says:

You will become more confident with your decorating once you’ve had a chance to practice it. You will eventually find your style. Just like anything else, it takes practice. The book looks like a good start! Love you!

  8. Maria says:

I LOVE MAKEOVERS/HOUSE PROJECTS! Can’t wait to see what you come up with 🙂
