It’s always a different game when I photograph people close to me. It’s both an advantage and a challenge- knowing someone for so long that you can’t see them objectively. Meg and I are cousins, so we’ve literally known each other since birth. We spent weeks during the summer at the beach, shared week-long games of Monopoly and fought over the best pool toys, swapped clothing and dished on the latest goings-on in each other’s life. She was my maid of honor, she’s the classiest girl I know, and the reason behind my undying love for JCrew. I remember first hearing about William- well, actually, I remember the first photo of the two of them popping up on Facebook five years ago, and then I remember calling Meg to ask who this guy was.
They met in the summer at their favorite place on earth- Bald Head Island. Meg & William were introduced while working at the BHI Club; she as a hostess, he as a golf cart guy (the island doesn’t allow for cars so everyone drives carts). There’s something romantic about summer nights, and something even moreso when those summer nights take place on Bald Head. Maybe it’s the canopy of Spanish moss that graces most of the winding golf cart roads, or the sprawling beach views, or the sense of being removed from the rest of the world, but that summer led to something beautiful, something more than either of them knew at the beginning. It only made sense, then, when William was ready to ask Meg for her hand, that he’d take her back to where it all began and proposed on a warm August night at the Bald Head Island ferry.
William, Megs, I love you both.
Stay tuned for part 2 coming tomorrow morning!

What a beautiful couple! You captured their happiness so well! By the by, your photos and couple look like they came out of a J.Crew catalogue! Hopefully you take that as a compliment.
Beautiful! Such gorgeous light in all of them 🙂
Ha! I just read the commentary before the pictures! I was a bit eager too see the photos…
Beautiful couple, beautiful photos! Great job, Abby!
Love how light filled and happy these are! And I seriously need to bite the bullet and get a pair of Jack Rogers sandals. Every time I see the gold ones I remember how badly I “need” them. 🙂
So gorgeous Abby! I cant wait to go to BHI with my family in June!

Beautiful photos! Of course, what else could happen with such a lovely couple! William and Meg, congratulations on your engagement! I’m so glad Abby could be the one to capture the two of you at BHI. I’m sure you’ll have a tough time choosing which shots to use. Mom, Aunt Karen
Abby, It was so nice to meet you and Matt at BHI this past weekend. You are a lovely couple!
You are not only a great photographer, but a great writer as well! Your beautiful description and photos of Meg, William, and Bald Head Island brought tears of joy to the Mother of the Groom! Geez, I’m already crying a year before the wedding! Ha! It just shows how talented you are with your special words and pictures!
I am so excited to have Meg as my future daughter in law! She is very special and William is very blessed.
BHI is a very special place to me with fond memories of both William and Bradley working as players assistants at the Golf Club for many summers. It is such a beautiful place, it is truly my heaven!
Thanks for the wonderful pictures,
Dianne
Dear Abby Grace,
I love all your pictures, they are so soft and light, I would love to know how you gave this look so bright to your pictures, I would love to know if you used some action, or Presets
Gorgeous light.
Hey Margarita! Thank you so much for your sweet words! I actually don’t use any presets or actions on my work- it’s all just hand-tweaking in LightRoom. I correct for exposure, white balance (I prefer my images a little on the warmer side), and then pulling up the blacks a little bit. Other than that, I leave them alone. I hope that was helpful!
ABBY. I love every single one of these!! Gorgeous! Ahhhhhh that light!
Awesome Subjects times Awesome Setting times an Awesome photographer equals Awesomeness cubed!
Grandfather of the groom. Abby, you have captured the essence of love and happiness. Great Pics, great location, great areas to capture the sparkle in their eyes as well as a glimpse into the future of this couple and what they bring to a mariage.
A future made in Heaven and on Bald Head Island.
Congratulations to all.
