Matt prepared a travel journal for me for my most recent trip overseas; along with a love letter for every day I was gone, he also gave me a thoughtfully-planned writing prompt for each day. He knew I love capturing my travels in photographs, but he also knows how much I love to write. And one of my favorite writing prompts from the trip was “Describe Rome in one word.” Without hesitation, I chose the word “layered.” Rome is layer upon layer of history- thousands and thousands of years of culture, politics, people, stories, everything, all crammed into what ended up feeling like a small town. It was unimaginably cooler than I was expecting!
My sweet host, Heather, was incredible- she planned the perfect mix of relaxed experience and active wandering, and I couldn’t have enjoyed my time more! For example, after arriving home from being picked up at the airport, we went straight into making limoncello. By hand. With lemons from trees in Heather’s front yard. Words cannot describe my glee!
Without further ado, I present Rome, Italy for your viewing pleasure.
My gorgeous host, Heather!

Ahh, so gorgeous! Love every single image 🙂
Absolutely gorgeous! Thank you for sharing these lovely images.
Incredible images, Abby! Love living Europe through your eyes…makes me want to hop on a plane this very minute!
Jaw dropping gorgeous Abby! I’m living my wanderlust side though you. 🙂
Oh, I MUST go to Italy now. Beautiful, beautiful work!
Seriously amazing! Your scans are so beautiful! I felt like I was there!
Abby, I just love your travel images. I know you plan to sell prints, but may I suggest a coffee table book? All the images go so well together in a series and give an overall feel for the cities you’ve explored when viewed as a whole collection. Since you love to write, you could give poignant little captions throughout the book, or descriptions of what the city feels like. All your images together, combined with your writing, in a neat little book that can be picked up from time to time for an escape to a different place – it would be magical! I can see a whole Abby Grace in Europe series, with different books for each city..! Just a suggestion! 🙂 Loved spending 5 minutes in Rome from my office today 🙂
Abby, we def want some prints of a few of these! Your work is amazing!
