IT’S ALMOST CHRISTMAS!! I’m photographing one last session tthis afternoon and then I’m taking off for the next few days. It’s gonna be awesome :). Sometimes I forget that I’m allowed to take vacation days even when I’m not on vacation, and since my wedding season is officially over, I’m going to spend time enjoying the last little bit of 2013! Plus, I still have Christmas shopping left. I mean, it’s not like I waited until the last possible minute, I still have a good 24-30 hours left, right? Right!

Matt & I headed up to NYC this weekend for an anniversary session and it made me realize that New York really is magical at Christmas time. Insanely crowded as well, but magical all the same. I wanted to take full advantage of the opportunity of being up there so we scheduled an extra day to visit my uncle and his family in Brooklyn, where I came to fully appreciate just how reasonable northern Virginia housing prices are in comparison to those in New York. Never again will I complain when I know that a brownstone townhouse in New York can easily set you back $2+ million. Yeesh!

As always, lessons learned/events that transpired over the weekend:

  •  On our way from Central Park to Radio City Music hall during Corey & Kelsey‘s session Saturday night, we somehow accidentally ended up in Rockefeller Center. We were walking along and all of a sudden Matt turned to the left, pointed and asked “Isn’t that the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree?” I’d always wanted to see it but I’d heard the area was jam packed anywhere close to Christmas and had planned to skip it. Accidental tourism for the win!
  • You know how people exaggerate when they tell stories and say things like “it was the most awkward moment of my life?” We really and truly experience the most awkward moment of our lives, and probably of this poor boyfriend and girlfriend’s lives as well. After lunch with the Herrintons in Time Warner mall, we descended the escalator to find a guy waiting at the bottom on one knee. Assuming he was about to propose, and being a photographer, I geeked out and pulled out my camera to capture the moment. Natural thing to do, right? Well, things took a turned for the excruciatingly uncomfortable when said girlfriend came down the escalator, saw said boyfriend, and after asking “are you serious?!” three of four times, said “I’m sorry, I can’t do this” and bolted for the door. What. just. happened.
  • On that note, if this story sounds familiar to anyone and they know that the story ended happily after said boyfriend chased his girlfriend out the door, please let me know. I have pictures to share!
  • Riding the train is so much better than driving to New York. I know I’ve said that before, but I just felt like you guys needed to know how much I love Amtrak.
