If you read yesterday’s blog post, you’ll already know all about me having no chill.

Fortunately, I got it together for Mary’s shoot and *definitely* convinced everyone present that I was 100% relaxed and not at all nervous about shooting for a person I’d admired for more than a decade.

Definitely.

We shot primarily at J&M’s home in New Haven, CT, and ventured out to Yale’s campus and a nearby lighthouse for a few additional portraits. One of the editors from Mary’s publisher, Kelsey, was on set for the shoot! It was SO helpful hearing more about the book from Kelsey’s perspective, and seeing a few of the page proofs she’d brought with her to see how the layouts would fit together.

For Mary’s full-day shoot we were fortunate enough to have my go-to stylist Katherine on set for both wardrobe and help with set styling, which is part of the reason we were able to get through as many looks in the amount of time that we did!

I was starting to sweat a bit as we got toward the end, nervous we would run out of daylight, but we finished in the nick of time and ended the day with some after-dark shots on J&M’s front porch on the coast, with a charcuterie board to boot.

I’d like to formally request that all brand shoots end with an ocean view and a cheese board.

I sent a collection of previews to Mary a few days after her shoot and the voice memo I got back is one of my all-time favorite sound bites- “OHHHH EMMMMM GEEEE… we are all dying, DYING over how these turned out!”

This session was incredible from start to finish. From Mary’s clarity of vision, to her willingness to pull out all the stops to make this shoot a smashing success (like painting her kitchen TWO DAYS beforehand!), and her ability to put together one heck of a team, it was an absolute DREAM! And now to see these photos live on in the pages of her new book, Slow Growth Equals Strong Roots, it’s just overwhelming.

Mary, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you for trusting me to shoot for you, for giving me so much creative license, for making it so easy to thrive in my zone of genius. It was an absolute privilege to shoot for you, and I can’t wait to see how your book continues to impact the lives of your readers!

Here are just a FEW favorites from the jam-packed full gallery!

Can we all stop to admire Katherine’s styling handwork on those shelves, please? She did that while we were in another room, and when we walked in and saw the final product, I think Mary almost cried. I LOVE having on-set styling help at brand shoots!
