Given how many of my clients are top-of-their-field photographers themselves, I probably shouldn’t be nervous when a new inquiry comes in from another talented artist.

And yet I *always* am.

One look at Connie’s work and I knew I was talking to an absolute master of her craft. She’s an architecture & interior photographer based in the DC area, and her work is a DREAM. She’s a master of photographing living spaces- her portfolio of kitchens will leave you drooling (and Pinning for days)! Add to that the fact that she’s kind, humble, and endlessly considerate, and I was absolutely thrilled she asked me to shoot her brand photographs.

I knew the location for Connie’s shoot was going to be key- we needed a space that spoke to the high-level real estate that she photographs, so we’d need a furnished-but-vacant property where I could photograph her… photographing a house (try that on for meta). But it also needed to have plenty of natural light… and plenty of room to move around… all while feeling neutral enough to speak to Connie’s own brand vibe.

Easy, right?

Because of the fast-moving nature of DC real estate, we couldn’t confirm a location until the week before the shoot… and then cross our fingers that it didn’t go under contract (which could impede our ability to shoot, in the event that there was an inspection or something scheduled). Well, sure enough, the house we chose DID go under contract the night before we arrived, but we were able to make it happen anyways- super grateful to Connie being able to navigate that with the listing agent!

Brand session for Constance Gauthier, architecture & interior photographer | by Abby Grace

We concentrated on a collection of photographs showing both Connie and her employee Nathan at work doing both photo & video to fully capture the visual marketing needs for a new listing, as well as upscale portraits for use on About pages, bio photos, and the like. Given how much landscape-oriented imagery Connie showcases on her website, I was also conscious to shoot more horizontal photographs than usual.

Connie, it means so much that you allowed me to shoot these for you. Thank you for your trust, and for keeping us all laughing throughout your shoot day (it helped take the edge off the nerves!). You’re a joy and a gem, and I hope this isn’t the last we see of each other!

Psst, photographers: betcha can’t tell which images were shot using flash, can ya? We did quite a bit with my softbox that day, and the result feels so natural that, TBH, even I can’t tell the difference!
